What a brilliant day we had at Shoot Joy workshop last week!
Shoot Joy was Cassandra and I’s first joint wedding photography workshop and we chose to host it at Victoria Baths. This beautiful former swimming pool is one of Manchester’s most unusual wedding venues. Victoria Baths not only looked picture perfect for our styled shoot, the setting also inspired us all during our learning times too. Our thanks go to Martin, Roxy, Georgina & Chris from Victoria Baths for looking after us in the run up to the workshop and on the day.
Shoot Joy kicked off with a morning of teaching from myself and Ayesha. I talked about my favourite topics of Branding, Marketing & SEO (yes, I used to work for an SEO company!). Ayesha delivered an inspiring talk about her Wedding Approach & Workflow, along with a live edit later in the day. At every step of the way, our attendees were able to ask questions and start discussions so that they could get the best out of the talks.
After refuelling with a pizza lunch, it was onto our styled shoot. Ayesha & I both took turns to show our attendees tips and tricks for getting the best out of wedding portrait time. Our models Liza, Sofya & Alex were total naturals and we cannot thank them enough for taking part. We chose to work with these guys as they are ‘real’ people, rather than professional models (although perhaps they could have new careers?!). This gave our attendees a chance to practice their portrait photography in a real situation.
Our wonderful suppliers had done us so proud with the styled shoot. Cass & I are truly grateful for your support! To set the scene in Victoria Baths’ Gala Pool, Love Lights the Way had set-up LOVE letters and a rose-gold heart. The Flower Lounge had created a spectacular floral arch, the big and beautiful rustic bouquet and the rainbow bright bouquet.
The Case of the Curious Bride very kindly dressed our models. Liza wore an original 1960s dress from the The Case of the Curious Bride vintage collection and Sofya wore an on-trend top and skirt combination. Alex wore a dapper velvet suit from Richard Smith Bespoke. Livvy Morewood did a fabulous job on hair and make-up duty too (I just loved Liza’s 60s eyeliner!).
We also had two extra surprise models along – the pugs! Thank you to their mum Ash for bringing them along and Kaye Hannabuss Textiles for providing their sweet little bow ties.
Outside of our shooting time, our attendees were able to spend time with Van, the very knowledgeable man behind Sensor Clean Manchester. Van was on hand to provide expert tips and advice on camera care and sensor cleaning. The guys from Leica Store Manchester were also along to show our attendees the latest lightweight Leica goodies and let us have a try.
Now I’ve done my best to sum up what Shoot Joy was like… but I think this video by Bruce from Love Two Film explains Shoot Joy way better than I ever could. Thank you so much Bruce for being capturing this incredible video for us…
