Borgo Tre Rose Montepulciano Wedding

It’s blog time again and I’m so excited to share this stunning Borgo Tre Rose Montepulciano wedding in Italy… It’s always so humbling when my couples fly me over to their destination wedding and trust me to capture their big day and this was absolutely the case for me when Toni first got in touch to ask me to capture their Italian wedding.

Toni and I go back a long time when we used to work together and I remember her saying to me years later when I did a portrait session for her that when she gets married she’ll be doing it in Italy and that I will be her photographer… hilariously I’m pretty sure Toni had not long started seeing Iain so I’m not sure if he knew what the plan was at that point ha. Fast forward a few years and there was a Facebook message booking me for August 2019 in Montepulciano!

Borgo Tre Rose

Toni and Iain decided to hold their 3 day wedding extravaganza at Borgo Tre Rose which sits within the breathtaking landscape of the Val di Chiana hills, it’s a charming country hotel perched on the top of a hill and surrounded by acres of vineyards. It’s truly authentic Tuscany at it’s best.

A huge thanks to Daniella who made sure everything went smoothly!

What went down

All of the guests stayed on site and enjoyed a welcome pizza party on the first night which turned into an early hours session when the fantastic band, Hyde Family Jam, rocked up and started playing. If you haven’t come across these guys then you have to check them out. They did an amazing job entertaining everyone the night of the wedding. If you’re thinking you recognise them, well you may well have seen them performing with vigour outside the infamous Betty’s tea room in York.

Needless to say the hangover kits placed in everyones rooms certainly came in handy the next day!

Cortona Town Hall

Did you know you don’t have to be an Italian citizen to be legally married in Italy? Most towns have their own Mayor and town hall which means you can get hitched there or they come to you if you have a specific venue in mind.

Toni and Iain chose to get married in Cortona, a stunning hilltop town about 20 mins away from Borgo Tre Rose and within the stunning Town Hall building. Check out how beautiful it is below.

Iain, the groomsmen and all of the guests were collected by coaches at lunchtime and dropped off in the old town so they could have a lazy Italian lunch and wander around whilst the girls got ready back at the villa.

The ceremony was beautiful and they even celebrated with bubbles which was gifted by the Mayor herself!

Drinks reception and food glorious food

Following a rice heavy confetti exit down the steps of the town hall and passers-by stopping to sing and congratulate the newlyweds, all of the guests headed through the old town and camped out at a lovely little bar for drinks and nibbles whilst taking in the life of the town as it passed by.

After a few chilled hours everyone was taken back to Borgo where we were greeted with the most stunning Tuscan sunset where of course I had to grab a few photos with Toni and Iain and their girls before sitting down to the most beautiful meal.

The setting around the pool was stunning and had such a romantic feel about it.

Once everyone had their bellies full it was time for speeches which basically resulted in everyone diving into the pool fully clothed… I did’t get away with it either but thankfully my cameras were safe before I got thrown in!

It was wonderful to work with so many talented people – here are a few of them:

Dress: Willowby by Watters dress from Perfect Day Bridal

Bespoke suits: Crichton Bespoke of Chester

Flowers: Roberto Wedding Florist

Hair and Makeup: AF Alessandro Fratini

Videographer: Leonardo Olivito

Congratulations again Toni and Iain. It was an amazing celebration and Phil and I loved being part of it. Thanks so much for having us and enjoy this preview! xxx
